Home Modifications - Frequently Asked Questions

What is a home modification?

A home modification is a renovation that makes living in your home easier.  Some of the most common home modifications include widening doorways to accommodate wheelchairs or walkers, installing grab bars in showers and bathtubs, installing chair lifts, remodeling bathrooms with ADA showers/tubs and roll under vanities.

How do I know what I need?

It is easy to get overwhelmed.  Wayne S. Lesher IV Company (WLC) partners with professionals ICAN Mobility Specialists who meet with you to evaluate your needs today and in the future.  Or, if you know what you want, just give us a call and we’ll work with you to select the best products to meet your needs.

How do I select the right remodeler?

There are lots of builders and remodelers.  But, few who have invested time and resources to understand the ins and outs of home modification.  WLC was designated Certified Aging-in-Place Specialist (CAPS) in 2008.  CAPS is awarded by the National Association of Home Builders after completing a three-day, intensive training program on working with older and maturing adults and individuals with disabilities to remodel their homes for aging-in-place.

When you select WLC for your home modifications, you are selecting a company that is committed to serving this special segment of the community and who understands the unique building requirements associated with this type of remodeling.

How much should I expect to spend on a home modification?

It depends on the work you are having done.  WLC will visit with you, discuss your needs, and prepare a detailed proposal.  You are under no obligation to move ahead with the work and we are happy to adjust our proposal and design to meet your budget.

Is there financial help available?

There are a number of programs available to assist home owners with modifications.  WLC is proud to be able to offer a list of funding options that you can pursue. Or, if you prefer, WLC can work with you to secure complete or supplemental funding for your home modifications (for a fee).
